The West’s Waitākere Ranges cover an awesome 39,500 hectares of native bush - complete with scenic waterfalls, swing bridges, freshwater streams, and more than 250km of walking tracks.
At the gateway, the Arataki Visitor Centre is a source of local information and provides panoramic views over the forest and beyond. Cascade Kauri Park and Goldie Bush are located further north, both of which showcase ancient kauri trees and a variety of walking trails.
These reserves are part of a vital ‘bush corridor’ for native birds - though access is currently restricted in some parts to protect against kauri dieback disease.
