I feel privileged and excited to be taking up the role of Branch Manager at Barfoot & Thompson Papakura. I’ve been with the company for more than 24 years and have previously held branch management positions. For the past 12 months, my most recent role as a relieving manager sparked my desire to return on a permanent basis.
All those years ago when I first joined this family-owned company, it was the people and their highly trustworthy reputation that attracted me. Also, I’m proud to work for a company that plays an integral part in the local community where we do business. Whether sponsoring events, supporting various sports teams, or helping community organisations, the company loves to play a part in making Auckland a great place to work and live.
After completing a Diploma in Teaching and a Bachelor of Education degree and also a Diploma in Business prior to real estate, I was a teacher for 10 years specialising in physical education. Being a good leader and role model, a strong communicator, motivational, organised and enthusiastic, are all qualities of a good physical education teacher, and they carry over perfectly to my role of branch manager.
Managing the Otahuhu branch for a time was highly rewarding and I discovered how much I enjoyed working in South Auckland - a vibrant, multi-cultural suburb. So, when the position at Papakura came up, I seized the opportunity.
Life outside of work involves my family first and foremost – my wife Philippa and our three sons are right behind me. I enjoy playing golf and tennis, mountain biking, travelling when I can and of course the many beautiful beaches in this part of the world.
In my role as Manager, I lead from the front. I support and empower my staff and give them the confidence and direction to be successful in the highly competitive world of real estate and also to have fun!
